Dizengoff, LASG to build farmers’ capacities

The Lagos State Government has applauded its collaboration with Dizengoff Nigeria to make food abundant in the state at affordable prices.

The commendation was made during a programme that featured products exhibition on mechanised community agriculture that was organised by the state’s ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs in collaboration with Dizengoff Nigeria in Lagos, according to a statement on Friday.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, Folu Padonu, congratulated Dizengoff Nigeria for its collaborative efforts with the state government, which he said marked the beginning of the partnership for community agriculture in the state.

According to the statement, the product presentation and exhibition was part of a capacity building programme that involved the training of farmers to ensure they have technical know-how in modern ways of farming to improve yield.

The programme covered four areas of agriculture solutions where participants were enlightened on the use of modern agricultural machineries and implements, greenhouse technology, irrigation solution, agrochemicals and consumables.

Participants included heads of departments of agriculture and social services, and agricultural desk officers in all the state’s 57 Local Government Areas/Local Council Development Areas.

Other relevant stakeholders involved in mechanised agricultural development also attended the programme.

In his key note address at the event, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Communities and Communication, Akeem Sulaimon, stated that the state government believed that enlightenment and empowerment of personnel, especially in mechanised community agriculture at the local government level, was a key to sustainable development that would guarantee consistent growth of the economy in the areas of agriculture, food security and employment opportunities.
